New Year's Solitude on the Green

New Year's Eve never really excited me much and with the lady out of town all week that left me alone to bring in 2009. With the generally slower fishing that comes hand in hand with winter fishing my choices were somewhat limited. I decided that this would be a perfect time to go make my first trip to the the renowned Green River. From what I understood, like the Provo, there is some great midge action. I was super stoked, I've always wanted to fish the Green. I was excited to finally get to see the crystal clear waters that I've dreamed about.

For whatever reason I have a hard time driving slow. Even if I'm not in a hurry I just can't bring myself to do it. So to make the story short: speeding, an expired license, an out-dated proof of insurance AND registration card warranted me a responsible driver of the year award. The officer awarded me a $100+ prize and I was on my way.

As I winded through the last few miles the anticipation grew. I drove accross the dam and almost felt intimidated. Would this large river just dominate me? I stopped for a pic and rolled on to Dutch John to find my parking spot for the night. All I have to say about Dutch John is that it seemed a whole lot bigger on google maps.

I slept like a baby and woke up stoked as stoked. I ate "breakfast" and wadered up and made the short drive down to the base of the dam. The weather was pleasant and it looked like I was in for a beauty of a day. I started the hike down and my stoke level grew 10x when I caught my first glimpse of the river down below. Two bald eagles cruised over the river below. Radical. It was everything I'd imagined. When I got down to the water I couldn't decide where to go. I was all alone and the site of all those fish was too much for my fish-hungry eyes. I spent the next little bit just walking and simply checking out all freaking fish. So sweet.

more to come................i wanna talk about new trips
